VARIOUS VIEWS ON THE SPLITTING PROPOSAL!

CIARAN WHELAN – It would be hard on present day players to go from colleagues to rivals. Splitting at all levels so suddenly would be very traumatic. There is also the question of what happens if one side of Dublin prospered and the other flopped. I think one Dublin team should always play in the Championship.

JIMMY KEAVENEY – In the long term it could work. Dublin has to get special attention and this is one way of doing it. It will take a lot of selling.

Barney Rock – Playing 2 teams would give many more Dubs a chance at inter county level, but it wouldn’t necessarily raise standards. It might be worth a try even as an experiment.

KEVIN HEFFERNAN – Dividing Dublin probably makes sense from an administration point of view as it’s such a big area but I have serious misgivings about the 2 team idea. It wouldn’t be the same for a Dublin player to be chosen for North or South. It would weaken the sense of identity.

JOHN O’LEARY – I can see merit in splitting Dublin all the way up to Under 21 level, but there should be only one team at senior grade. I can’t understand the rationale. What’s needed are better organised clubs.

MICK O’DWYER – I think its plain daft. Dublin are Dublin and you don’t start tinkering around with them. What next? Split Cork or Galway? I’d hate to see Dublin divided.

LARRY TOMPKINS – The big plus is that it would give more players a chance to play intercounty football, which would be good for Dublin in promotional terms. But who would wear the traditional colours? Would fans be happy screaming “Come on ye North Dubs” from Hill16.

LUKE DEMPSEY – I think it’s a non-runner. Dublin haven’t won a Leinster title since 1995 so it’s not as if they’re dominating.

JOHN O’MAHONEY – If I were a Dublin player or supporter, I’d perfer one county team. Identity has always been a big thing in the GAA and it might be lost in Dublin if there are 2 teams.

5/09/01Big weekend ahead as the quarter finals of the football championship are held in Parnell Park. The best fisture could be the meeting of champs na fianna and St Vincents on Saturday.

font size="3">23/07/01 Tickets for Dublins clash v Kerry will be difficult to come by. We will get the town end terrace but demand is expected to greatly outstrip supply.

font size="3">2/07/01The Draw for who will play the loser of the Leinster Final (Meath of course) takes place on Sunday - when we should be down to 4 in the loser's group.

font size="3">18/06/01Ian Robertson's return to football lifted the Dubs over the Offaly hurdle yesterday. A Concussed Whelan should recover to have a major bearing on improving Midfield ahead of the Leinster Final next Month.

font size="3">12/06/01Tommy Carr has left a vacancy at Centre Forward for the Offaly game. Ian Robertson is not named but is expected to play.

font size="3">6/06/01 News is back in the lead up to the Offaly game. This crucial clash is on in 10 days time and decides who will make the Leinster Final.

6/12/00 Congratulation to the Fly The Flag committee for a great result. The Blue will fly along the Liffey next year.

29/11/00 Na Fianna put their crown on the line in Newbridge on Sunday at 2.15. O'Hanrahans are bidding to take it off them and add to titles won by Eire og for the small county. Na Fianna are strong favourites but are concerned over an injury to Karl Donnelly.

29/11/00 The Eircell All-Star awards are to announced tonight and televised Friday. Good luck to Paddy Christie, Peadar Andrews and Colin Moran. Breheny in the Independent (a judge for the stars)has opted for Christie but has left out the other pair.

27/11/00 A big week for na Fianna who bid to retain their Leinster crown next Sunday in Newbridge. Mick Galvin trained over the weekend and this is a boost for the Glasnevin men as they bid to win Dublin it's 4th Leinster title in 6 years. Should they emerge victorious they will play the Munster champs (glenflesk or Nemo) in the semi final in the new year.

27/11/00 Brave UCD failed in their quest to land the Leinster Championship yesterday as Graigue of Kilkenny proved just that bit too good for them. It was a gripping encounter but also one that drew out the criticism of UCD boss Dave Billings who had nothing good to say about the referee.

23/11/00 Dublin Gaa Fans will have a few very busy weeks between may 20th and June 17th next year. On the first of these dates our Hurlers take on the prelim winners (laois no doubt). If we win this we're in action agains against Champions of 1996, Wexford on the 10th June. 2 weeks before thsi our footballers start their campaign (May 27) v Louth? and follow up on the 17th June v Offaly probably.

19/11/00 Na Fianna make it to the Leinster Final v O'Hanrahans of Carlow - 3rd December Newbridge. They beat Rhode 16 to 9 points.

14/11/00 Mick Galvin may well be fit for the Leinster Final IF Na Fianna beat Rhode on Sunday in Newbridge. The Ex Dublin forward punctured his lung while playing Abbeylara recently.

14/11/00 Dublin's next League game in Tralee looks set to be played before the New Year after all. Tentative arrangements have put the game on either the 3rd or 10th December.

14/11/00 Great draws for both of Dublin's senior sides in the 2001 Championship. Our last league game of this season will probably be a foretaste of our first Championship outing presuming Louth do beat Longford. The wee county then should be Dublin's first opposition followed by Offaly if (and we should) overcome them. Despite Offaly beating us in the league they would be considered less of a concern than Meath and Kildare who are on the other side of the draw. In hurling lady look has finally shone. Dublin play Laois (probably) for the chance to take on Wexford for a place in the Leinster Final. Both Offaly and Kilkenny play off on the other side of the draw

13/11/00 - Dublin are well beaten by Offaly in the second round of the National League. The final score of 1-10 to 0-9 flatters as Dublin only registered 1 point in the firts half. Dublin's league ambitions now lie in tatters.

13/11/00 - UCD carrying the Dublin flag in the Leinster championship beat St. Annes of Wexford in a tight contest yesterday.

13/11/00 - St Judes are Division 1 Champs after Kilmacud failed to catch them when slipping up aginst Naomh Mearnog

09/11/00 - The Hurlers wont take part in the preliminary round of the Leinster Championship next year. The Dubs will probably take a place in the semi finals against Wexford, Offaly, Kilkenny or Laois (assuming they take to prelim place)

09/11/00 - So Dublin footballers are to be seeded ahead of next years football Championship. Dublin, Westmeath, Offaly and Kildare will take four quarter final places and await the 4 qualifiers from the other teams. The bogey team in this group is Meath.

07/11/00 - Tonight the Leinster Council meet to decide no next years fixtures for the championship ahead of Sunday's main draw. It is expected that in football Dublin will be seeded thereby getting a bye in round 1 and thus giving a weaker team the chance to start with a win guaranteeing it at least 3 games. In Hurling it is possible that Dublin as the winner of this years round robin phase will be pitted directly against Kilkenny, Wexford or Offaly in their first game. As every year it appears avoiding Kilkenny is an absolute necessity.

06/11/00 - Dublin take on Offaly in the League next Sunday at Tullamore. we'll review this Leinster clash in the coming week.

06/11/00 - Na Fianna withstand a dogged Abbeylara comeback to make their way to the Leinster Semi final v Rhode. Des mackin's first half goal - delightfully set up by Sherlock provided the impetus for victory on a dire day. Hill16.com predicts the Dunshaughlin will make the Leinster Final from the other side of the draw as they finally overcame rathnew.

02/11/00 - Dublin 2-10 Tyrone 0-19. Dublin folded in the last 10 minutes of an exciting game in Parnell Park. Tom Carr says "big deal". See a full report in NATIONAL LEAGUES.

27/10/00 - The team for Sunday - DUBLIN (NFL v Tyrone) – David Byrne (Ballymun Kickhams); Ian Clarke (Ballyboden), Paddy Christie (Ballymun Kickhams), Coman Goggins (Ballinteer); Shane Ryan (Naomh Mearnog), Jonathan Magee (Kilmacud Crokes), Peadar Andrews (St Brigid’s); Darren Homan (Ballyboden), Enda Sheehy (St Judes); Niall O’Donoghue (Ballymun Kickhams), AN Other, Keith Galvin (St Sylvesters); Mick O’Keefe (Kilmacud Crokes), Vinny Murphy (Trinity Gaels), Wayne McCarthy (Erin’s Isle). Subs: Colm Boyle (St Brigids), Anthony Holly (Whitehall CC), Mick Casey (Lucan Sarsfield), Ken Darcy (St Brigids), Paul Croft (Naomh Barrog), Ian Robertson (Ballymun Kickhams), Brendan O’Brien (Trinty Gaels), Alan Brogan (St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh), Robbie McDonald (Naomh Fionnbarra), Martin Cahill (St Brigids).

26/10/00 - The news many Dubs have been waiting for has arrived. Sherlock has thrown in his soccer boots and has committed full time to GAA. Absent from the senior team while Na Fianna march on in the championship (for which they are favourites) Sherlock has been back to his very best of late and seems to have really come on from his concentration on Gaelic Games.

24/10/00 - There is near landslide support for UCD to be omitted from future Dublin Championships. Voting is running at 65 votes to 12 at present. Now if only the league was this predictable.

24/10/00 - Dublin get 3 all star Nominations. In the hunt for the awards to be announced November 30th are Paddy Christie, Colin Moran and Paedar Andrews.

23/10/00 - Louth are the first to face Dublin in the Minor football championship of 2001. Then hopefully Kilkenny. Westmeath - title favourites are on the other side of the draw.

23/10/00 - Dublin were beaten well by Meath in the floodlight final on Saturday. 1-04 to 1-08 was the final score as Meath finished much the stronger.

23/10/00 - Abbeylara has been in the news a lot of late sine tragic incidents during the summer. But for dublin GAA fans it means only one thing - the Opposition for na fianna in the first round of the Leinster championship. The Longford champs are given little chance of upsetting the Glasnevin men on Sunday week.

12/10/00 - Club action this weekend in Dublin is taking a toll on Ireland's chances v Australia. Both Johnny McGee (Kilmacud) and Ciaran Whelan (Raheny) will not now get a chance to improve on 2 mediocre performances the first day as the former attempts to gain championship victory while the latter tries to avoid relegation.

12/10/00 - Only 2 days to go to the highlight of the Dublin Club Calendar. Neither team claims to have any real injury worries. But will Deegan mark Sherlock? and who'll cope with Farrell?

11/10/00 - The bookies are making Na fianna solid favuorites for Saturday - 5/4 on. Kilmacud then could force an upset at 5/4.

11/10/00 - well done to Colin Moran who not only got Ireland under way on Sunday last but is now in line for a scholarship to UCd. The last Dub to gain such a placement was Sherlock - for soccer. If this mail seems to contradict the last posting below - it doesn't!!!

11/10/00 - So UCD take the hurling crown after beating St Vincent's. there is no doubt that most of Dublin Gaa fans are adamantly against UCD being allowed play in teh Dublin Championship at all.

03/10/00 - The Dublin v Australia clash on Thursday will feature the 3 Dubs scheduled for action on the Sunday. This is a welcome boost for the Charity game. If you can get there Parnell Park is the venue.

03/10/00 - Tommy Carr has been reappointed County Football Manager for another 2 years. Hill16.com welcomes the decision to keep the management team together for another crack at sam despite 2 losses to Kildare and one to Meath in Leinster in the last 3 years.

02/10/00 - Good wins for Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes put the 2 in a collision course in the final on October 14th. A classic encounter awaits us all.
